Powell River part of Communities in Bloom

Powell River is one of 25 BC communities involved in Communities in Bloom this year, says Kim Miller, manager of the local Chamber of Commerce.

On July 22, two judges will come to evaluate the city on a criteria including tidiness, landscaping and environmental.

"It will be an official visit to Powell River. Judges will spend a full day touring our community from Wildwood to Grief Point," said Miller.

The Powell River Beautification Committee has put together an itinerary for the tour that takes them from one end of the city to the other. It includes business areas, private gardens and commercial areas.

This is the first time Powell River has participated in this program, said Miller, stressing that we are in the evaluation stage of the program and not the competitive part of the program.

Judges will provide the beautification committee with a detailed evaluation of our strengths and weaknesses. After acting on the evaluation, Powell River will be ready to enter the competition phase the following year.

It's a joint project between the City of Powell River and the Powell River Chamber of Commerce.

The program values cooperation between individuals, businesses, service clubs and local government to make visible improvements in the community. All participating communities will be awarded a bloom rating along with their evaluation report.
