Coming Up!

Summer solstice festival

June 20 is the First Annual Lund Summer Solstice Parade & Festival. Come and celebrate the longest day of summer and participate in the fun and magical procession. Or line the streets, enjoy chalk arts and smile as the wild and wacky parade travels from the community center into the village starting at 2 pm. Festival follows with food, arts and music galore.

Organizers are looking for participants that are fun and funky. Are you a stilt-walker, unicyclist, clown, belly dancer, musician, artist, child full of love or adult full of child?

Volunteers are also needed to help with parade and festival coordination. Call 604 414 0647 or cocohess@gmail.com.

Soap Box Derby

Grease those wheels, the Soap Box Derby is back! The event runs June 19 and 20--Father's Day weekend--at Sunset Park in Wildwood.

Get registration forms at Save-on-Foods and TC Mall; drop them off by June 13. Trial runs are on June 19 at noon. Sunday, there's a Pancake breakfast at 8 am; racing starts around 11 am. Money raised will go to Therapeutic Riding.

The 2nd Annual Kids Carnival also on Sunday, June 20, starts at 10 am. The Carnival is put on by Kiwanis along with many volunteers. This year, money raised will go to playground improvements at Kelly Creek, James Thompson and Henderson schools.

AeroSpace Camp

Youth aged 10 to 18 will have a blast at the Texada AeroSpace Camp July 21-24. Learning ranges from the principles of flight to firing rockets and flying model planes in a wind tunnel. Only 40 applications will be accepted to the camp hosted by the Texada Arts, Culture & Tourism Society. There will be two levels of training: introductory and advanced stages for last year's participants (and older students).

The Texada Annual Fly-In comes on July 25, the day after the AeroSpace Camp graduation. It will feature the AeroSpace Camp participants' projects at their own display. The Fly-In draws hundreds of people, not only from Powell River and Texada, but from all over the province and the USA. Find out more at www.texada.org.
