Jason Vranjkovic is excited to be part of the Powell River community with his new business. Jason's Electrical Service Ltd. is fully licensed, bonded, and insured, a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. The Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) transferred the license for a community radio station to the Powell River Community Radio Society from the Powell River Model Community Project for Persons with Disabilities last month. The Powell River Community Radio Society was formed as a non-profit in 2009 to hold the license and operate the station. It will provide alternative programming, especially in the areas of local interest, culture and disability service. Society memberships are now available for $10. Tree Frog Bistro is relocating to the Powell River side of the pond. Owner Marika Varro will open the former Texada restaurant on Marine Avenue later this summer in the former Silkes Organic Market location beside Taws Cycle & Sports. Tom Shortt and Gerald Phillips opened a new jewellery creation and repair business called Rumple and Stiltskin. The shop at 4712A Marine Avenue specializes in handcrafted jewellry and repairs and creating a line of custom jewelry. They also do silver casting and same-day cleaning and polishing. McDonalds Restaurant owner Bill Chao is excited to be doing some needed updates to the Powell River restaurant. The drive through is now open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The restaurant inside continues with its regular hours. Watch for other upgrades coming over the summer.

The Powell River Chamber of Commerce is thrilled that Quinn Lambert, a Grade 12 student at Brooks Secondary School who is continuing on with business administration education and cosmetology, is the winner of the $500 Arnold Carlson Memorial Business Scholarship.
